Fujairah is the UAE’s quiet coast. It faces the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf, the Hajar Mountains rise right behind the beach, and the drive from Dubai takes about two hours. Hotels here cost a third less than in Dubai for the same star rating, the sea is calmer, and nobody is shouting about jet skis at eight in the morning. How Fujairah Works for Families
Two things to know before you book. First, Fujairah has an airport, but almost nobody flies into it. Second, the emirate splits into the city in the south and the Dibba area 60 km north, with mountains and wadis in between. Having spent time in the Emirates, I treat the east coast as the place to go when Dubai gets tiring. Water is warmer in winter and stays swimmable from October to May. Summer is a different story: 40 degrees and humid, so from June to September only hotels with a chilled pool and a kids’ club make sense. Prices drop by half in those months, which is the trade.
Palace Beach Resort Fujairah

Front desk staff speak several languages, including Russian and Hindi. Prices are the highest in Fujairah, but still below a comparable resort on Palm Jumeirah.
Fujairah Hotel & Resort
Fujairah Hotel & Resort is the budget pick in the city center. It stands across from Century Mall, and the airport is a five-minute drive. Children get a playground and a temperature-controlled pool, which means swimming in January and in July alike.
Its rating is 6 out of 10, and the reviews explain why: the building is old, the rooms are dated, and the nightclubs on site can be loud on weekends. Ask for a room away from them. What you get in return is a large garden, big rooms with a fridge and free Wi-Fi, and a price that lets a family of four stay a week for the cost of two nights at Palace Beach. Nour Arjaan by Rotana

Outdoor pool, gym and spa are all on site. A tour desk books mountain safaris and boat trips, and parking is free. Royal M is where you land when you want a beach morning, a mall afternoon and a hotel dinner without moving the car more than once.
Boutique Hotel
Boutique Hotel is a three-star with an 8 out of 10 rating and more to do than most five-stars on this list. Small children get a playground. Older ones and parents get table tennis, a squash court and a tennis court. Add an outdoor pool, a gym, a sauna and a hot tub, and a rainy day, rare as it is here, stops being a problem.
Food is a mix of local and Irish dishes, with vegetarian and halal options. The single most useful feature is a free airport shuttle, which removes the question of how to get a family and its luggage from Dubai to the east coast. Confirm the schedule when you book, since the shuttle runs at set times rather than on demand.
Fortis Hotel Fujairah
Fortis is a four-star with a 7 out of 10 rating and mid-range prices, a short drive from the beach. Guests get an outdoor pool with a sun terrace, a gym and a sauna. Rooms are plain but large enough for a family with one child on an extra bed.
Its strongest point is the restaurant. The menu covers American, Chinese and Indian dishes, so a picky eater finds fries while the adults order biryani. Vegetarian and halal meals come on request. A shuttle service and a small business corner round out the list. Fortis suits a family that spends its days at the beach or in the mountains and wants a clean, cheap base at night.
Dream Point Hotel

Book it for two or three nights when the beach is the whole plan and the budget is tight. Umbrella Beach itself is public and free, with showers, a playground and food trucks in the evening, so a cheap room next to it works better than a pricey room across town.

None of these hotels has a full water park. The nearest large slides are in Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai, both about two hours away. What Fujairah offers instead is a calm sea from October to May, hotel rates a third below Dubai, and a beach where a five-year-old can stand in the water without a wave knocking them over. Book winter weekends a month ahead, when Dubai residents drive over and fill the beachfront rooms first.
