Before we went to Singapore, all I could picture were skyscrapers, futuristic gardens, and a lot of strict rules. I wasn’t sure it was the right place for a family trip. My kids are six and fifteen – a tough age gap to please. But I was so wrong. Singapore was amazing.

It was fun for the kids and for us, making for a trip we’ll never forget. The real problem wasn’t finding what to see in Singapore with kids. It was figuring out how to see it all. My advice? Don’t even try. Just pick a few things and enjoy them. So here’s what we did, and my list of the best places to go with kids in Singapore.

Sentosa Island – Where Dreams Come True (for all ages)

Okay, if you can only visit one place in Singapore with kids, make it Sentosa. I mean it. This isn’t just some island; it’s a massive entertainment hub built for fun. You could easily spend a few days here and not see everything. For kids, Sentosa has it all. Theme parks, beaches, cool museums – the list just goes on.

Universal Studios Singapore – A Movie World for Everyone

A lot of people ask if Singapore has a Disneyland. It doesn’t. But it has Universal Studios Singapore, and I think it’s just as awesome. We spent a full day there and it was a huge highlight of our trip.

The park has different themed areas, like Ancient Egypt, The Lost World, Hollywood, and New York. There are rides for all ages. My six-year-old loved the Madagascar carousel. My teenager couldn’t get enough of the “Revenge of the Mummy” roller coaster and the Transformers ride.

It can get crowded. We downloaded an app to check wait times, which was a lifesaver for planning. I’d say Universal Studios is unmissable if you’re traveling with teens. But there’s stuff for little ones too, like the Shrek show or wandering down Sesame Street. Grab a map when you get there, but try to check the show times online before you go. We made a point to see the WaterWorld show, and it was worth it.

Two other great spots on Sentosa are right next to Universal Studios. First, the S.E.A. Aquarium. It’s one of the biggest in the world. We were floored by the size of it. The huge panoramic tank with sharks and rays swimming overhead makes you feel like you’re at the bottom of the ocean.

It’s not just for looking, either – you learn a lot about the ocean. My daughter loved the jellyfish display. My son was fascinated by the different corals. If your family is more into water slides, check out Adventure Cove Waterpark. It’s a top-notch waterpark with a cool twist: you can snorkel in a reef with actual fish! How often do you get to do that? There are shallow pools for the little kids and plenty of intense slides that our teenager loved.

Beaches and Other Activities on Sentosa

But Sentosa is more than just parks. It has great beaches, too. We went to Palawan Beach, which is known for being good for families. It has a cool suspension bridge that takes you to the southernmost point of continental Asia. The kids had a blast crossing it and watching the big ships. The sand is nice and soft, the water is warm, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

Another fun thing is the Luge. It’s a gravity-powered cart you steer down a track. We all did it. It was a blast and felt very safe. For older, more adventurous kids, there’s a zipline at Mega Adventure Park. And at night, don’t miss the Wings of Time fountain show. It’s a whole production on the beach with lasers, music, and fireworks. It was a perfect way to finish our day on the island.

Want to give your kids a peek into the future? Take them to Gardens by the Bay. This place is more than a park; it’s an incredible work of engineering. The huge Supertrees are vertical gardens. At night, they light up for a show called Garden Rhapsody. We just lay on the grass and watched, and the kids were completely captivated. The park also has two giant glass domes: the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome.

Inside the Cloud Forest, you’ll find a massive indoor waterfall and tons of cool plants. It’s also air-conditioned, which is a blessing in the Singapore heat. The Flower Dome is full of beautiful flowers from around the world. But for the kids, the highlight was the Children’s Garden. It’s a great playground with water jets and slides. It was the perfect place for them to run around after being inside the domes.

We were there for about half the day. The kids had a fantastic time. It just shows how well Singapore combines amazing nature with fun things for families to do.

The ArtScience Museum looks like a giant lotus flower and sits next to Marina Bay Sands. The building itself is cool. But the inside is even better. We went to the Future World: Where Art Meets Science exhibition. The kids got to make digital waterfalls and draw animals that then appeared on the walls. There were all these amazing light installations. My youngest was glued to the projections. My teenager was trying to figure out how it all worked. It was just incredible.

The Science Centre Singapore is a bit of a trek from downtown, but it’s worth it. It’s a huge place with tons of hands-on exhibits about science. You can pretend to be an astronaut or play with electricity and light. They have a separate area called KidsSTOP for younger children, which is great. It’s a perfect plan for a rainy day in Singapore, or just to do something different.

Ethnic Quarters – Little India, Chinatown, Kampong Glam

Singapore is a mix of so many cultures. Exploring the different neighborhoods was a highlight for us. We started in Little India. It felt like a different world after the modern downtown area. All the bright colors, the smell of spices, and the music were amazing. The kids were just staring at everything – the saris in the shops, the sweets, the ceremonies at the temples. You feel the history in these places.

Chinatown was completely different again. Red lanterns everywhere, little shops, and so much street food. We bought some souvenirs and ate dim sum. Then there’s Kampong Glam, the old Malay area. We saw the Sultan Mosque and browsed shops with Arabian perfumes. My teenager pointed out all the cool street art and graffiti. Choosing the right family hotel in Singapore was a big deal for us. Location is key. You want to be close to the action. We also made sure our hotel had a pool. After a long, hot day of sightseeing, it was a total game-changer.

Great areas to look in are Marina Bay, Orchard Road, or right on Sentosa island. If you have a bigger budget, places like PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore or Pan Pacific Singapore are fantastic and often have kids’ clubs. Staying on Sentosa at a hotel like Amara Sanctuary Sentosa makes sense if you’ll be there a lot. For options that are a bit easier on the wallet but still nice, look at four-star spots like Rendezvous Hotel Singapore by Far East Hospitality or Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre by IHG. My best advice? Do your homework and book ahead, especially during busy travel times.

Transport and Logistics

Getting around Singapore with kids is surprisingly easy. The public transport is fantastic. We used the MRT metro system almost exclusively. It’s cheap, efficient, and gets you just about everywhere. The stations are spotless and have air conditioning. Plus, kids under 7 ride for free if they don’t take up a seat. We got Singapore Tourist Passes, which made things simple and saved us some money.

You can also take taxis or use Grab, which is like Uber, but they cost more. They’re good for when you have a lot of bags or are out late. We booked an airport transfer into Singapore ahead of time, and that was a smart move after a long flight. To get to Sentosa, you can take a monorail, the cable car, or just walk across. The city constantly surprised us, from the fun at Universal Studios to the quiet moments at Gardens by the Bay. The zoo, the museums… it was all amazing.

The biggest challenge for what to see in Singapore with kids is that you can’t possibly do it all. We left knowing there was more we wanted to see. That’s a good reason to go back. So if you’re on the fence about taking your children to Singapore, my advice is to just go. This city is a fantastic spot for a family adventure, with memories that will last. Just do a little planning, be open to new things, and have a great time.
